How to Transfer Vehicle Ownership in Dubai
Buyer and seller should settle the vehicle, insurance, inspection, mortgage and plate questions before signing.
Quick answer: Start with the official service below, use the checklist for your exact case and keep every reference number. Requirements can differ by applicant, vehicle, property or institution.
Before either party signs
Confirm the exact vehicle, chassis number, price, payment method and handover time. Clear applicable fines, arrange electronic insurance for the buyer and complete the required technical inspection. A financed vehicle needs its mortgage released through the recognised process.
How the online agreement works
The seller starts the RTA change-ownership request and enters the buyer’s verified details. Both parties review and sign the electronic sale-and-purchase agreement. The buyer completes the required fees and registration steps, while the seller follows the selected plate handover or reservation route.
Do not miss the validity window
RTA states that its online sale-and-purchase agreement is valid for 14 days. If the remaining registration steps are not completed in time, the agreement can be cancelled. Do not hand over the vehicle, keys or full payment on an assumption that an unfinished online request equals completed ownership.
Close the transaction cleanly
The buyer should receive the new ownership record and verify insurance and plate details. The seller should retain the signed agreement and proof of plate handling. Both parties should confirm that toll, parking and insurance accounts no longer point to the wrong vehicle.
Check the live authority page immediately before submitting. Service options, requirements and charges can change.
