How to Cancel a UAE Work Permit Correctly
Work-permit cancellation and residence cancellation are connected but not identical procedures.

Know who starts the request
For a MOHRE-regulated private-sector job, the employer normally initiates the work-permit and contract cancellation through MOHRE’s approved channel. The employee should review any electronic cancellation or settlement acknowledgement carefully before approving it.
Reconcile the final account
Separate unpaid salary, unused leave, end-of-service benefits, expenses and any other contractual sums. Ask for a clear written breakdown. Do not approve wording that says all dues were received if the amount is still disputed or unpaid.
Track the next immigration step
Cancelling the work permit does not by itself complete every immigration action. Confirm who will handle the residence cancellation or status change and what evidence you will receive. If moving to another employer, follow the new employer’s lawful permit sequence.
Keep a permanent record
Save the signed cancellation, contract, payslips, settlement calculation and payment proof outside the employer’s email system. For an unresolved dispute, use MOHRE’s official complaint channel and quote the work-permit or transaction reference.
